Intermezzo by Salley Rooney is one of the most exquisite books I’ve read all year. It’s a true tale of two brothers. We follow Peter, a lawyer, and Ivan, a chess prodigy, in grief following their father’s death. Exploring new and old relationship dynamics between the brothers and their lovers, Rooney masterfully builds complex characters that will leave you feeling as if you’ve known them all your life. I highly, highly recommend this book.
